The journey of the letter s

Four-panel progression of an orange parallel-line lowercase s on charcoal: a smooth but incorrect foundation, a three-line offset failure, a pinched nine-line regression, and the final smooth nine-line construction. The board states 36 recorded tries and the final 16.999-unit minimum gap.

36 recorded tries to draw one lowercase s.

The first curve looked right until it expanded into nine lines. The measurements passed. The inner turns still pinched.

The fix was to stop adjusting each line and reverse-engineer the source from the final nine-line envelope.

Israel caught what the measurements missed and proposed the backward approach. Atlas tracked, rendered, measured, and compared each version.

The geometry held when visual judgment and measurement worked together.
